How do I load my home made DVDs onto my Hard Drive (so that I can load it on my IPOD)?

I have DVD's (unprotected/decrypted, viewable on any DVD player) that I want to be able to load onto my Ipod. I have downloaded Free IPOD Video Converter, but need to get my movie file onto my Hard Drive to add to my IPOD. How do I do it?
