My 2001 V8 Durango loped while starting yesterday. Fuel cleaner and a tank of gas seemed to fix it. Not!?

My 2001 V8 Durango has been going through oil like crazy for the last two weeks(4 quarts). It's overdue for an oil change, but otherwise has been driving normal. Yesterday it loped while I was trying to start it and was erratic while revving, it also had a slight sulfur smell. I put in a fuel cleaner and a full tank of gas and it started running fine again. About fourty miles later it started lopping while driving and stalled. It started, loped and stalled several times more while I tried to get the last five miles home. I didn't make it. It turns over but won't start. But it doesn't lope while trying.
