What are the prepositional phrases in these sentences?
Such a phrase begins with a preposition, has an object of the preposition and an article (the, a, an), preceding the object. Such phrases tell where, when, and how. Memorize the prepositions, a list of which can easily be found, and determine which word they modify or better explain in the sentence. For sentence one, "of evil repute", for sentence two, "to the door". Don't confuse prepositional phrases with verbs such as "to run". Those function differently within the sentence. So, to do the rest of your task, search for a list of prepositions, which might be in your grammar book. Memorize them. Then proceed to yze each sentence to see how they are fleshed out with more detail with such phrases that begin with prepositions, words which don't stand alone but lead to a noun. If I go off of this to find a list of prepositions, it will erase and I don't want to start a doent on my new computer. You can do this task easily. Were I to do it for you, your learning curve would be nil.
