What are homeowners insurance companies required to pay?

We had ice storm and lost all our food in deep freeze, 2 refrigerator freezers and some stuff out of fridge. Insurance company says they will only give us $500. That won't pay for all we lost. What about trees that were uprooted and clean up of those trees? They won't pay anything on that. Tree hit Satellite on our roof, they won't pay for that. Satellite company is charging us $50 to come fix it. I just want to make sure they are being legit. I know they try to get out of paying for things. Thanks!
