Looking for a 70's young adult book - a girl whose parents were divorced was a main character?

All I remember is that the girl got to go to the Sherry-Netherland Hotel in NYC and it was the first use of the term "stepmonster" that I ever read. Anyone have a clue?? Help! Thanks.
